Can you sleep with a butt plug in?

So, you’re looking for a new challenge to conquer with your ass. One that will last all night long. I can tell you now, nothing feels better than waking up full. There are some steps you should take to help you get there, though.

So if you’re wondering ‘can I sleep with a butt plug in’, the short answer is yes, if you’re smart about it. For the longer answer on how to do this safely and oh so satisfactory, read on.

Size, shape and Material Matter

First rule: The plug you’re taking to bed should be smaller than your usual play size if you want any chance of falling asleep. You want to make sure the neck of the toy is tapered and long enough for it to be comfortable, especially if you’re new to this.

This is where it gets a little confusing though. You equally don’t want it too small. If the toy is too loose then it’s simply going to fall out in the middle of the night, game over.

When it comes to material, platinum-cure silicone reigns supreme. This is considered the gold-standard of sex toy materials. It’s body safe and just the right amount of give and flexibility to fit the shape of your ass comfortably, instead of forcing your ass to adapt to a certain shape that you’d find with glass or metal butt plugs. You’ll find platinum silicone toys will cost a bit more, but for the quality and longevity (not to mention safety) of the toys, it’s certainly worth it.

Train Yourself Before You Start

For the love of god, don’t just shove in a plug and pass out. That’s a one way ticket to cramps, soreness or even fissures. Work your way up if you haven’t done so already. Start with shorter wear times in the day, aim for 20 minutes at first. Then gradually increase this as you get more comfortable into the hours.

As a rule of thumb, ideally you want to be able to wear a plug for longer than you’d be sleeping in it. You’ll be doing various activities during the day that will make wearing the plug more difficult than just sleeping in it. So if you know you can wear that plug for eight hours while out and about, you can wear it while lying down and resting no problem.

Use the Right Lube

Hopefully everyone knows this by now, but lube is obviously essential. Which lube though can be a trickier question. Ideally you want something long-lasting that won’t dry out over time and provides maximum cushion. For sleeping with a butt plug in, we’d recommend Xlube. Traditionally this stuff is used for taking big, big toys and fisting. And hey, if it’s good enough for fisters, it’s good enough for your butt plug.

Silicone lube is a possibility as a lube that’s more resistant to drying out, but this still may be an issue for the length of time you will be sleeping. If you prefer silicone lube, it’s best to test how often you feel you need to reapply during the day. Note that some silicone toys do not mix well with silicone lube. Check this with the toy manufacturer before applying. Twisted Beast platinum silicone toys can be used with silicone lube but require a good clean after.

Simply water-based lube is out of the question. This stuff would dry out far too fast and cause you all sorts of discomfort and pain. Do not even consider it.

Butt Plug-Friendly Clothing

Maybe something you hadn’t thought about, but choosing the right clothing to go to sleep in could make things a little easier for yourself. Briefs or anything not too baggy will help keep your butt plug in place as you move about in your sleep. Loose boxers or even going to bed naked  might risk your plug snagging on the bed and causing an uncomfortable jolt, or even risk popping out.

While we’re at it - for your own peace of mind, consider putting a towel down. You’re using a butt plug anyway, just to be safe!

Listen to Your Body

If something feels off and you wake up in the middle of the night, there’s no shame in tapping out. You still made progress! Take it out and have a good rest, you’ve now got a bench mark to beat for your next attempt.

Aftercare

Made it through the night and managed to sleep with the butt plug in? Well done - enjoy the satisfaction and that filled up feeling. Once you’ve enjoyed your success though, it’s time to think about aftercare.

Start by removing the toy. Even if you’re eager, don’t yank it out. Slowly push the toy out while guided by your hand and be aware that regardless of whichever lube you used, it’s likely to be a little dry.

Once out, let your hole rest and breathe for a bit before doing anything else. No more toys or fingers for a little bit. If you’re feeling tender (which is normal), keep some Anusol or similar anal cream nearby.

Butt Plug Recommendations

If you’re thinking about spending the night plugged, choosing the right toy makes all the difference. We’ve got a few butt plugs you might want to consider depending on your experience levels. All our Twisted Beast toys are made from platinum cure silicone, so you can be sure that  all of these plugs will feel comfortable for a long night’s sleep.

Heaven’s Gape

Our easiest to use anal butt plug. A simple cone shape gives you a satisfying and reliable stretch all the way down. Made from our fleshy platinum silicone, this toy will go in smooth and stay in comfortably.

Ted

Ted, our silicone butt plug is one step up from Heaven’s Gape. A snug shape, Ted comes with a wider neck that should help those of you with looser holes keep a plug in while sleeping. This plug also comes in eight different sizes, from 6.5” to 13.6” to fit a range of holes.

Hole Reaver

Our bubble butt plug is for more experienced holes. With a stacked bubble design adding an extra layer of stimulation, you’ll feel every bulge pressing against you. This design also helps anchor the toy, so if you can take it, Hole Reaver is a good option for sleeping in.

Final Thoughts

Sleeping with a butt plug isn’t just possible, it’s deeply satisfying when done right. With the right size, shape, lube and a bit of training, you can go from a quick 10-minute tease to an all-night stretch.

So lube up, listen to your body, and sweet dreams.
